Santo is a brown and
white Podenco cross around two years of age. He was
found running loose but luckily was caught and brought
to us.
This photo was taken on his arrival and he has already
settled himself in and made himself comfortable.
Can you give him a good home ... how can you resist
those eyes? |
 |
Tiniebla is another
one of the many Podencos we have at the shelter. Most of
these hunting dogs get separated from the pack and end
up with us. They are a really affectionate breed though
and will install themselves on your sofa if you let
them.
Timiebla is about 4 years old and has been with us since
Nov 2007. |
 |
Rudolf got his name
because his back feet are very splayed (turned out) like
a ballet dancer, possibly through poor diet.
He is a lovely liver Pointer cross about 18 months old.
He is a bit scatty but really affectionate and is
looking for a good family home. |

Reford is a Staffy
cross and was supposed to be Redford (after Robert
Redford) because he was so handsome but a typing error
gave him the name Reford.
He was brought to us as a found dog in June 2006 and we
think he is about 3 years old.
Are there any Staffy lovers out there who can give him a
good home? |

Pepin is one of our
larger dogs but he is really affectionate. He is a
mostly a wonderful liver colour and as you can see has a
really cute face.
It is difficult to say exactly what breed he is as there
seems to be a bit of everything in him.
We would be looking for a home with a large garden or
someone prepared to give him plenty of exercise. |

Ornela doesn't look
too happy in this picture as she is really hoping to
find a nice home and family.
She was found wandering the streets in Dec 2007 but
unfortunately did not have a microchip. Her owners have
not been in touch so we can only presume she has been
abandoned. Can you help this lovely Boxer cross? |

Nana is a lovely
Cocker cross but a little long in the tooth as she was
born in 2000. This doesn't stop her being a character
though as she loves to curl up in her water bucket on
hot days.
She was brought into the shelter by her owner didn't
have the time to look after her due to work commitments. |
 |
Bosco is one of our
older dogs and really needs a nice home to give him
comfort in his twilight years.
We estimate that he was born in 1998, possibly a little
after, but he is still very good for his age.
Apart from the odd "age spot" on his coat he is a lovely
looking Boxer cross. |

Bilbao was abandoned
and luckily someone managed to catch him and bring him
into the shelter otherwise he could have become yet
another traffic victim.
He is about 12 months old and is a Husky cross, possibly
with a GSD.
He has such a cute face and would make a good pet for a
family. |

Alfie is between 18
months and 2 years of ago. A bit of a mix of Labrador
and Podenco he should really have been called Dumbo by
the size of his ears. Unfortunately, Alfie had to be
left behind on the island when his owners returned to
the UK.
He has a really nice nature and is looking for a good
home. |

Omega was abandoned
on Christmas morning at the top of the lane leading to
SARA. Someone was seen tying her to a metal post and
driving away.
She is a beautiful GSD and is about 4 years old. She was
a little nervous at first but is settling down nicely.

Toño Puppy (1)
is one of two brothers
that were left with us after the rest of the litter were
adopted. They were brought to us when they were 2 days
old and have lived in the shelter ever since. They are
now nearly three years old and it would be nice to see
them both adopted into loving homes. |

Toño Puppy (2) It is
not very often that puppies are not snatched up within
weeks of their arrival but these cuties were not so
lucky. They are a mix breed of Husky and Podenco (we
think) and would make someone a lovely pet. Can you help
us give these little brothers the "forever home" they
deserve? |
 |
Katalino is one of
the many Podencos we have for adoption. We rescued a
litter of puppies from the municipal pound in March 2006
when they were only days old. Most have already found
forever homes but we are still hopeful that he will find
his special family soon. Podencos are a lovely breed of
dog and are very affectionate and Katalino loves to be
fussed and cuddled. |

Shep has been
abandoned by his owner who has returned to the UK. He
has a Microchip but we have applied for ownership and
issued a denuncia against the owner. He is a lovely
Border Collie and would make somebody a wonderful
companion. |
 |
Complejo
Puppy is a female black Labrador crossed with possibly a
touch of Podenco. She was born in March 2006 and found
on a complex (hence the name) on the15th May 2006. Like
most of the puppies we have she is lively and always
looking for attention.

Barbaro
is quite a small Bardino cross. As a found dog we can
only guess his date of birth as being February 2005. He
was still a puppy when he has brought to the shelter on
the 18th April 2005. He is a lovely looking
dog and, after being with us for 18 months he needs to
find a loving home.

Eden
is right mixture, a definite “Heinz 57”. He was born
approx. 2002 and has been in the shelter since August
2004. He is very loving and faithful. It is unbelievable
that this gorgeous dog has been with us for 2 years now.
Just one look in those eyes and your heart melts. We
need to find him a good home asap but, unfortunately, he
is not cat compatible.

Flaco
- means thin in Spanish and you can see why he got his
name. This photo was taken two weeks after arriving at
SARA and, believe it or not, he has put on weight
whilst being here. He is a Podenco, born approx. Feb
2005 and brought to the shelter as a found dog on the 20th
August 2006. He has a cheeky grin on his face after
playing in one of the planters in the outside dog runs. |

Moro
is a Belgian Shepherd/Labrador mix and always first in
the queue for cuddles and attention. He was born
approx. Aug 2003 and was brought to the shelter late
November 2004. He loves to be out on a lead and is very
playful. He would need a lot of exercise as he is
inclined to be very lively so we wouldn’t advise a
family with very young children. Two years in the
shelter means he also needs a home asap.

Sandia is a little mix breed born around 2001. She was removed
from her home in March 2006. She is very shy and
withdrawn and needs a caring, patient owner to win her
confidence and have a better life than she has obviously
had before.

Zarko
has been in the shelter since 2003. A largish mongrel of
Labrador/Shepherd mix (amongst others) he was born in
2000, so he has spent half of his life with us. His
previous owners left him at the local pound as they
wanted to leave the island and couldn’t take Zarko
with them. He was rescued from certain death by SARA but
he now needs the loving home he so rightly deserves.
Although he mixes well with other dogs, he is not too
keen on felines so he would not be placed with a family
who own cats. |
